Its Wonderful, Its Amazing, Its Clicker Training!
Clicker Training Clients: Lois and Sheila Alexander-Reid write:
"Just wanted to say thank you for the training you did with Max and me. As you know, we adopted Max from the Washington Animal Rescue League and suspected he had been abused. As sweet and docile as he is, when he met his clicker trainer (you), all of our beliefs were confirmed. Your inability to get to close to him, however, didn't deter you from training. In fact, it seemed like it encouraged you to find a way to help us. And you did! Max's success is evident. Your training me to train him has paid off. He enjoys learning and is exceptionally adept. I can tell, his success in clicker training has given him a boost in confidence. As well, the entire experience has brought Max and me closer. I even look forward to practicing with him whenever I can. Hopefully, I'll be able to practice sitting, down, come, leave it, stay and loose leash walking everyday as prescribed. I discovered the other day that, as you said, he likes to do tricks. He knows how to shake hands! So, Jake, thanks a bunch for bringing your expertise to us with such professionalism and compassion. "
Clicker Training is reward based, positive reinforcement training. It employs a small, hand-held device that makes a clear, sharp clicking noise. When your pet does something right, he earns a click which results in a treat. The click is like the camera-click that captures the exact action desired. Clicker training becomes like a game to the pet, it is tons of fun. Clicker training, as a result is a very fast way to train and blows away traditional training methods that can be abusive.
Once a command in learned, The clicker and treats are no longer needed.
Clicker Training can be used to train any kind of animal that can be motivated by a reward system. In other words, if your pet likes something, it likely can be clicker trained.
We mostly work with puppies and dogs offering obedience behaviors including: Sit, lay down, stay, come with a sit, leave-it and loose leash walking. We can also solve behavioral problems such as jumping up on people, counter surfing, nipping, barking too much and more. Fun and useful tricks can also be taught.
We have trained cats, but the demand is not very high. One of the cats we worked with, Floyd, responded very well to clicker training. In a few hours he learned the commands, come, sit in my lap, lay down in my lap, and shake hands.
To date, we have not worked with other animals besides dogs in cats but welcome the challenge.
Clicker Dog Training Description of Classes
We offer private, in-home instruction teaching basic obedience which includes the behaviors: house training management, sit, come with a sit, lay down, stay, leave it and loose leash walking. If your dog has behavior problems such as jumping up on people, nipping, counter surfing and others, we can help you with them as well. In addition, if you would like your dog to know tricks such as, shake paws, roll-over, spin and others, we can help you with teaching your dog them as well.
Training sessions are 1 hour long and we usually do 1-2 sessions each week. We work with you and the dog. While training your dog, we teach you as well so that you will know how to reinforce behaviors in between sessions. At the end of each session, you will be given a report card that includes a grade for dog for the day and homework for you to do with your dog until the next session.
Clicker Dog Training Rates
You can opt to pay as you go for $75 per hour. However, since it usually takes 5 hours to train a dog, we offer a 5 hour package for $350 saving you $25. We recommend that you try one session to see how well it goes, before making your decision. We guarantee results in the 1st half hour or you get a half hour for free.
